random acts

so i've decided to do something nice for someone every day for the rest of the year
...hopefully, this will stick and i'll keep doing it for...ever.
today, i took all the garbages out for everyone in my building. usually the guy who lives upstairs does it when he leaves for work at 3am. i hope he's pleasantly surprised when he leaves today and sees the trash on the curb!
yesterday i stopped what i was doing and asked someone if they wanted a ride because i realized we were going to the same place and i was passing right by their street.
on sunday i brought munchkins to a meeting i was going to.
on monday i didn't yell at someone when they were mocking my theory of needing just one person to be able to make a difference in a childs life....... yeah, that counts. i really wanted to tell him he was a bitter, jaded, mean guy, and should just stf up. soooo that counts.
why am i telling you these things? not because i want credit for doing them, that would negate the whole point of doing them. I'm telling you so maybe you'll see that a random act of kindness doesn't need to be some big giant spectacle, but really something small and simple.
tis the season loves! (but really, it wouldn't kill us to be a little kinder, every single day.)

friday randoms

it's 2:30 am and i have tons of randoms i'd like to share with ya'll

{ weird how i just typed said ya'll like i say it on the reg right?}

yeah...whatev don't judge. or do, because i liked it anyway

one: the current #1 keyword search that directs people to my blog is: "old hooker"
why?

because of this post
with this picture:

weird.

i randomly left my apartment on Monday morning,
no one {including my roommate} non the wiser
and traveled back home so my parents could take pity on me hacking up a lung while i cough my head off
and hopefully feed my and do my laundry

{sidenote: i actually always do my own laundry, because i feel reallllly uncomfortable with having to subject someone else to handle my dirty clothes BUT the laundry room at home is practically outside since it's next to the doggy door so it's usually -58 degrees down there and my dad has rules about us being sick and going down there--thus my laundry got washed for me.....but i did fold it all.
ok spoiled child explanation over.}

i'm glad to say i have thus far been successful with this plan of mine.

please keep in mind i moved out of my house officially two weeks ago today...sooo for anyone who's keeping track that makes it less than 14 days i managed to survive "on my own"

whooops.

anywayyyyy...

things i've thought about during all the free time i had this week..and last week...you know between job hunting, sleeping, watching every episode of dexter seasons 1-4 and hopping from home to hotel using other peoples hot water { and internet }

1. i am over skinny jeans. there i said it. the only thing i've decided i actually like skinny jeans for is when wearing knee high boots. besides that i am done with them. which is why i went on a slightly stalker like hunt for some old fashioned flare { apparently now referred to as bootcut} jeans and happily acquired two pairs at old navy. let's be real..unless you're actually someone who looks like a twig, skinny jeans are not universally flattering. #realtalk from the girl who is far from twig status.

2. old navy jeans are actually fantastic these days. gone are the awkward only two choices to pick from washed out straight legged to the weird ankle jeans. i've been wearing "the flirt" for some time now and my new bootcuts are "the dreamer". which more accurately describes me anyway so wins all around. lucky all you ladies who can afford those sevens and whatnot...i'm ok spending less than $30 on these babies.

3. target boyfriend tshirts are way better than old navy ones..yep. and there you thought i was all over the old navy bandwagon. they're longer, cheaper, and may i dare think even better quality? yep.

4. i haven't worn my hair curly in FOREVER. i dont mean like smooth curly, or even wavy with my straightener, i mean like my natural crazy textured curly. anddd i really didnt realize how short i cut my hair until like...yesterday. my b. time for it to grow super fast now.

5. why are people so lacking in social graces? i assure you that dropping the f bomb every other word in your conversation does not make you attractive. or make you sound intelligent. or...anything. oh and in case you wanted someone else to back me up on this, no worries. cosmo did in the february issue. or glamour. i forget but i read them both yesterday and one of them totally said it was a major turn off to guys when they meet you. keep it classy, no? toss in some please and thank you's. excuse me's would be nice too. use a softer tone and try the "kill them with kindness" route before the "curse them out and call them names" routine. it's a much better look.

6. speaking of glamour, i stumbled on a blog from a fellow rhody dweller {av}
and her blog {longdistanceloving} where one of her posts the magazine that saved my life
caught my eye. long story {not so} short, an article she read in glamour led her to get a mole checked out and it turned out that she had melanoma as a young twenty something. she had been a regular tanner and sun  worshipper. now i love a tan as much as the next girl, but because of these articles in glamour i quit tanning a little over a year ago...up til then i had religiously been going every single day since college. i'll be the first to admit laying out on the beach all day, or in a tanning bed for however long was relaxing, and some guaranteed time that i would not be bothered by the outside world. i felt better, sometimes napped for a quick minute, and loved how my skin looked.

BUT let's be real. i also have a suspicious mole that caught my eye a few years ago and i was also told to keep an eye on it..and i've also seen similar ones in those glamour articles to the one or two that have me a little worried about. SO i use sunscreen now..seriously. i don't sit out until i look like a lobster. i wear a hat and a cover up. i cringe when i think of the years and years worth of damage ive done to myself every single time i've laid out til i burned. i'll stick to my self tanners, or spray tan or... {gasp} stick with my natural shade... so be careful out there lovebugs.. life's precious enough { and dangerous enough} as is without having to add other ways for it to be cut short...but you know, to each his own.

and..to end off...don't be a fool wrap your tool, never underestimate the power of a good manicure and a kind smile, remember to be extra kind to young children and servers, don't forget everyone else may be fighting a harder battle, wash your hands, chew with your mouth closed, appreciate your hot water and internet, take the stairs instead of the elevator, laugh a lot, if you can make it yourself-don't buy  it, surround yourself with positive people, don't go home with strangers, andddd if anyone has someone lovely they'd like to set me up with in the rhode island/ mass area please help a girl out.

that concludes all the random things i've thought of this week, thanks to my excessive free time, studying of glamour & cosmo, and having access to internet for consecutive hours at a time.

random thoughts from a random girl

good morning lovebugs!

I woke up freezing & coughing and have not gotten out of bed yet or turned on my tv..oh the joys of only working part time....but not for much longer!!

 because this little miss :

has found herself a semi regular day job :)

soo since i'm being a bum i figured now is as a good time as any for some friday randoms
  • when all else fails, I wear leopard

  • whenever i eat i like to have one napkin on each side of my plate
  • when I was little I used to think a serial killer was someone who ran around supermarkets literally slicing up the boxes in the cereal aisle

Source: google.com via Jinny on Pinterest

  • I despise milk. haven't drank it since I was barely two, when I apparently refused it and never looked back.
  • i much prefer lowercase letters than uppercase
  • i really can't stand when people abbreviate words in text messages. for example: to: 2, you're: u r, probably: prolly..you get my point.

  • also, on my list of texting, and while i'm at it facebook posting annoyances.. when you answer me with a "kk", or spell things like you as yu, or yew. really? really?
  • i don't like cookies or candy, which is ironic since i bake them all the time for other people. I also only like soft serve ice cream or the custardy whip thing they have at ritas, no regular ice cream for me. my one exception is the edy's ( i think that's the brand, the one with the striped lid?) holiday egg nogg & peppermint candy flavor. yumsss.
  • i love uno. the game, not the pizza place. and i've never played it until I started working at my after school program

  • i know leggings aren't pants...but i like to pretend they are anyway and wear them all the time
  • I used to think pickles were awful when i was little but randomly started loving them when i snagged one from my roommates stash in the house one night. same thing with coffee. college will do strange things to you.
  • i'm not one of those girls that freaks out about bugs or mice..but i literally run away in fear when I see a slug. and trust me, i've seen gigantic, logic defying, monstrous slugs. i think it's in the water around here

  • i whole heartedly believe my pup riley will start talking to me any day now. he just looks at me like he gets it! what a guy, he loves me unconditionally and i'm not even a very good mommy
  • i can't do a cartwheel, or swim above water, or win at rockband....but I can read a book in a day, make personalized cards, and doggy paddle like nobodies business :)
  • i like to pick my blogs like i pick my wines & books, by their titles and pretty packaging
  • i kinda don't really like my blog title.. but I couldn't think of anything super catchy on the spot and it made sense at the time..time to brainstorm maybe
  • i took italian for years in elementary school, middle school & high school...and I remember very few words..but my favorite is andiamo! which I use all the time

  • speaking of languages...i used to speak spanish fluently when I was a wee tiny babe, but apparently forgot it all as I got older (and didn't speak it in school) It's one of my biggest regrets, and I'm determined to be fluent again, and i've really improved lately! and it really really realllllly upsets me when people say I can't be a TESOL teacher because " you don't speak spanish" umm, pretty sure not every one who wants to learn english speaks spanish. i don't speak mandarin either, do you? nope. didn't think so.
  • but...don't think you can make the mistake of talking about me in spanish in front of me. because I understand every word you're saying. and occasionally will comment on whatever it is you're saying about me either in english..or in the spanish I've been practicing in my head the entire time I've been listening to you. (yep, this has happened, and people are always surprised)
  • my parents speak to me in spanglish all day, every day. i'm not even sure if they notice when they do, but it's like I have an automatic translator in my head and rarely have no idea what they're talking about
  • the sound of a phone vibrating makes me nuts, especially when I'm sleeping. which is why i keep it on silent most of the time and therefore don't see any of my missed calls or messages until I wake up. which therefore makes the point of having the phone near me in case of emergency pointless, bc i miss it anyway. as my dad likes to say "it's like having a grandmother, but she's dead"
  • speaking of my dad, have you ever seen the dos equis commercials with the most interesting man in the world? they based him on my dad. he's like the dad in the movie big fish, that has a million random stories about his life and you're not sure which ones are really true but then you find out they're all true because he's just that awesome. yep, that's my dad.

  • i hate flying. terrified in fact. and yet ironically i used to want to be a pilot.
i sure can think of lots of random things to say apparently...

anddd now i think ill go make some mac and cheese for lunch since it's been one whole day since I had some. nomnomnommms

hope you're all having a wonderful day out there in the world !

with a heart full of hope & a mind full of dreams

random thoughts from today

Have you ever noticed just how many random thoughts you have in a day?
Well, I don't know about you but I have tons and tons.
here are just a few of mine from today:

i desperately would like some red jeans

when i must take cough medicine, i like to pretend it's really a shot of something yummy

happy feet two? yes please.

i really wish i liked turkey. apparently it's one of those lunch meats people always assume everyone likes and always have on hand.
I want to eat mac and cheese entirely too often but i'm ok with it

I'm watching freedom writers right now and decided that lady who plays dolores umbridge in harry potter and is also in freedom writers, bothers me. like nails on a chalkboard bothers me. I wonder if she has that effect on people in real life?

lately all the shows i like watching are about crime solving: csi: ny & las vegas, bones, SVU, criminal minds...see a pattern? I've abandoned my obsession with watching greys anatomy the night it's on and am totally ok catching it on my on demand days later.

beside all the crime shows, i've discovered pan am and once upon a time and love them, making me simultaneously want to live in a fairytale and be a 1960's pan am stewardess.

i don't like regular white bread  and will only eat it if it's toasted. i've spent too many years working at panera and am a bread snob now as a result. three cheese asiago? fresh out of the oven french baguette? sea salt sprinkled foccacia? yums.

i want cowboy boots. authentic ones.

i need to go through my friends list on the book of faces and clear outtttt.

my little brother is my best friend and cracks me up on a regular basis.

steve wards rule #1, dont be weird. i do get weird. i should probably work on that...

i closed the bar last night. that hasnt happened in a loooong time.

i also went to the bar alone. who goes to the bar alone? AND i went at 1:30 in the am. besides the fact that my brother works there and i know the bartenders, i still went with all intentions of being alone at the bar...which never happens because going there is like attending a high school reunion every single time. never fails.

i love the fact that bars here don't close until 4.

james franco? perfection. I hear he's single again. heres my chance!

i think i'm about ready to start dating again. like for real dating. like let's go to dinner and bowling and call me when you say you will and wake up next to each other, hold hands, run random errands, hang out with your friends, snuggle up on the couch together during a rainy day and watch a movie, dating.

forgot to take my makeup off last night. bad for my skin. good for the second day smokey eye i have going on right now.

i'm on my sixth day of not drinking soda and haven't caved in yet, surprisngly.

im supposed to be thinking about grad school and have halfway completed about five applications. I always quit when i get to the page about writing an essay saying why i want to go to grad school...is "because i'm an unemployed teacher and my parents are making me" not a good response? eh.

Funny Graduation Ecard: I admire your relentless drive to further your education and avoid real work.

anddd those are my daily ramblings of my day so far.
