we have soooooo much in common, really, i swear.

let's talk about that time i joined an online dating site because i know atleast 15 people who have been successful from it and the only guys that messaged me were born the first time bell bottoms were cool or they only have pictures of themselves with their shirts off in the bathroom and use "words" like "ur" and "prolly".

or, the guys i was matched with because we had SO much in common like
....having two eyes and enjoying breathing
who i decided to actually message them, never responded to me.

on second thought, let's just keep this between us.

why i refuse to be a bitter betty

I joined in for a link up hosted by one of my favorite bloggers neely
for many of us little bloggers to introduce our blogs to the world and hopefully make some new friends. We could use a post about anything really --
so I decided what better way to introduce myself to you out there who may stop by and visit,
than to ramble on about my theory on valentines day and being single

so take off your shoes, find a good spot to get comfortable and hopefully you'll stay awhile :)

well, i've been watching the notebook all day today.

legit, atleast three times. and i still stand by my opinion that the book is way better than the movie, (and has a way better ending) but i suppose if you've never read the book then the movie is just lovely but makes my heart sad.

and on that note:

so.. valentines day is coming.

and....

wait for it.....

i'm totally okay with it.

are you shocked? because i'm single?

well don't be.

yes, i'm single. and so what? let's be real, sure i'd love to have a boyfriend to do something special with on this official day of demonstrating your love to a special someone, but just because i don't have that right now does not mean i'm going to be one of those jaded girls who hates everyone who does.

and do you know why?

because i'm not alone. i have people who love me every single day. i have parents who think i could fly if i tried hard enough. i have a brother who tells me jokes about corn because he knows they'll make me laugh. i have a sister who sends me care packages just because. i have good friends and random friends and friends who i haven't spoken to in years but they see something that reminds them of me so they facebook me about it.
i've spent valentines day with boyfriends, with friends and on my own.

this year, i'll be spending v day working at a high school, probably watching teenagers awkwardly show off their flowers, balloons and cheesey gifts to each other while discussing the meaning behind the bear with the "iluvu" heart on it, while i'll be sitting at my desk sipping my coffee and enjoying my valentines day appropriate outfit.

which i've obviously already picked out and have hanging up in my closet.  i might even be coordinating it with a super fantastic red ribboned headband with a giant bow i have...which will do nothing to help in my attempt to look like an adult, and will probably contribute to people thinking im a student hanging out in the faculty lounge.

one of these days ill have someone in my life who will want to show me every day how much they care about me -- maybe by leaving me a note in my bag reminding me to have a good day, or turning my car on for me on a cold morning before i have to leave, telling me i look pretty when i wake up, or noticing the way i changed my hair from my usual, or even texting me just to say they were thinking of me -- and on valentines day maybe we'll do something exciting and special, or maybe we'll just hang out at home and make some dinner and watch a movie

but for now, i'm ok. im going to work on tuesday, going to the gym when i get out,  making something decent for dinner and heading out to an event afterwards at a college down the road to meet a group im hoping to volunteer with.

for those of you who have plans-- with a loved one or friends
(who are also your loved ones i'd like to point out) enjoy and have fun!
if you don't have plans--make some.
do your nails, clean your house, grab drinks with a friend, try that recipe you bookmarked to attempt one day, just please for the love of saint valentine, do something besides feel sorry for yourself and hating everyone you know who is happy in their relationship.

love yourself first. cliche delivered, over and out.

no but seriously. my {little} brother is my best friend. he's super smart. he's 25. he's getting his masters in teaching. he's really funny. people know him everywhere he goes. he can make people believe anything he says. he goes to the gym every day but isn't a meathead. people love him. he'll bring you flowers if that's your thing. he makes really good chili. he tells this really good joke about kansas city, and another one about grapes. he can move heavy things. he plays soccer. he has good hair. he wears nice clothes. he usually smells nice. he speaks spanish. he might even be president one day. he's one of the good ones.  my list of amazing things about him is never ending....so i'll just cut myself off here.

sooo. wanna win a date with him?

leave me a fabulous comment as to why and i'll pick a winner :)

*okay, okay, this may or may not be a real contest..because he lives in new york and you all live everywhere else in the world...but if you do, or you happen to know someone who might want to meet him and see what happens, well then seriously leave me a comment and i'll work some magic*

or just leave me a comment anyway. you know i love them!

alright enjoy your weekend lovebugs, xo

worst. blind. date. ...or at least super awkward.

Valentine’s Day Challenge

hello, hello lovebugs!!

i'm linking up today with neely, amber & casey for their

{ fabulous valentines challenge }

Today's Topic is:
WORST DATE EVER
So... i've only been on a few blind dates with people who didnt end up being my boyfriend ( i usually find one through hanging out with friends, and then they think im cute and therefore become my boyfriend....or something like that) but the ones i did happen to survive to tell about have made me dread dating all over again.
should i tell you about the most recent one i went on when my "friend" told me this guy was really good looking, really smart and totally my type...
cut to when i met him: he was missing his front tooth, told me he has just checked out of a rehab...two weeks before because of a mental breakdown and substance abuse issues, and that he felt we really had a spiritual connection and could "really turn into something", and would i like to go smoke with him after bc he just bought a fresh dime bag. no thank you.
OR
how about  i tell you about my very favorite awful blind date that
i had no idea was actually a date
i was in college and on an "off again" period with the guy i was always seeing, even when i wasnt. randomly, an alumni from his fraternity had just "friended" practically every single person i knew, so we started messaging back and forth because that was back when although i did accept every friend request i got, i wanted to know about this guy.
after a few days, he mentioned he was going to be in town and would i like to get together and grab dinner?
well, see keep in mind that i thought this was just a friendly thing, because i was in college and had a lot of guy friends so grabbing dinner with one of them wasn't ever suspicious to me.
anyway, remember how i said it was during an "off again" period? so my thinking, which was then further clarified by my friends, was that if my off again guy found out i was hanging out with someone else he'd come to his senses and realize how much he wanted to be with me. right. and it would do me some good  to meet other guys. ok sure.
so we make plans, he's going to pick me up from my house after an event at school and we'd go grab dinner.
red flag #1: he looked nothing like his facebook picture. NOTHING. im talking it must've been a picture from ten years ago.
i wanted to grab a slice or something casual...you know, because it wasn't a date.
we went to the cheesecake factory.
he talked about how he really was looking for a relationship, come into town a lot, what was i looking for in a relationship and how i could do better than my off again guy.
i kept talking about how great it was to make a new friend.
i tried to pay for my food, go dutch and whatnot but he wouldn't let me.

he mentioned he'd like to stick around for the night, make plans for after dinner...i mentioned that i wasnt feeling well and would probably stay home for then night...
(because im a big liar pants and had plans to go to a big party that night with my girlfriends)

anyhow, then he drove me back to my place where I planned on saying goodnight, great meeting you, thanks for dinner and running inside...

but he parked and got out and walked me to the door
(i know, i know, that's sweet, i just wasnt into it)

again he mentioned not having plans for the rest of the night and maybe we could hang out at my house, where again i said i wasnt feeling well so i was just going to stay home alone...so then he leaned in to kiss me goodnight which i was trying to avoid...
...and i was saved by my roommate who threw the front door open and said "yay youre home, ready to go to the party?!"

cricket.cricket.

i gave her the look and said
"party? no, im not feeling well, byeeeeee insert blind dates name here  thanks, i had fun!"
and ran inside.

i felt like a big tool. and the he texted me to say he had a great time and would love to see me again. wompwompwompppp.

was this the WORST blind date ever? no. but it was super awkward, i had no idea it was a date, andddd he tricked me with his profile picture. no fair.

p.s. i went to the party anyway, saw his friends who all asked how my date was because he had told them all we were going on one. fail.

join the link up and share your own blind date stories, because really...it's funny to read other peoples and be glad they didnt happen to you, haha :)
